QTECH Awarded Professional Services Contract with the Department of National Defence
April 2008

The Department of National Defense has been a long time client of QTECH through a variety of engagements for development, integration and technical architecture requirements. The Company recently completed several projects with DND and is pleased to announce the engagement of the firm on a new modernization initiative.

The main goals of the modernization project are to reduce latency, to automate repetitive or tedious business processes, eliminate unnecessary processes and to better apply the computing resources to the business priorities.  The systems in question include several Very Large Databases (VLDB) and processing flows involving several million items per day  The resulting architecture uses parallelism and a message based architecture to streamline processing and XMPP push technology to deliver items of interest to analysts eliminating the need for analysts to search for these items.  As this required the introduction of an entirely new capability into the applications infrastructure, QTECH was tasked to elaborate the security requirements of the architecture.

Designed a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for metadata sharing between Canada and its foreign allies. This high profile initiative will transform the manner in which Canada collaborates with its allies. This metadata sharing system allows the collaborating parties to retrieve metadata of interest from the department’s VLDBs, and is designed to handle very large volumes of requests and resultsets. Participated in an international working group to define the requirements and elements of the design, including the authentication and authorization infrastructures of the security architecture. Researched, analyzed and recommended IM/IT solutions to management; identified the relevant standards, and open source components, and recommending how they best be applied to the solution
